Introductory Port and Terminal Management Course For Emirates Global Aluminium - EGA

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), AD Ports Group’s (ADPG) Strategic Customer, is embarking on ambitious growth plans locally and internationally by developing vital brownfield and greenfield aluminum refinery and smelter projects. The projects’ feasibility studies require expertise on ports and shipping management for which EGA approached ADPG for support.

The two entities have a long-standing relationship, with EGA operating the region's largest aluminium smelter at KEZAD, and with its vast global footprint ADPG has the capabilities to build and operate ports around the world, while providing shipping for EGA.

As part of customer relationship development, capacity building and positioning, the AD Ports Group, as a global supply chain partner of choice for UAE Inc., decided to conduct a bespoke two-day training workshop covering port and terminal management, especially for the EGA team, which took place on 16 -17 May, 2024, at Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA).

The training course covered the following:

  1. The role of ports in EGA’s value chain
  2. Different types of ships & cargoes
  3. Port and terminals – design, layout & operation
  4. Dry bulk terminal handling equipment
  5. Container terminal handling equipment
  6. Liquid bulk terminal handling equipment
  7. Port Performance Indicators (PPI)
  8. Port & terminal utilities requirements
  9. Risk assessment and risk management in port operations
  10. The Green Port initiative
  11. Digitisation in ports

The course received tremendous participation and was attended by 14 members from EGA’s inbound, outbound, procurement and international projects teams along with four team members from AD Ports Group. EGA attendees provided valuable feedback and thanked AD Ports Group for an insightful, enjoyable, and worthwhile experience.

Going forward, the Group looks to position ADMA as an official ‘Knowledge Partner’ of EGA as well as hosting similar workshops and training sessions as ‘customer value proposition’ for other key customers.
